About Us

St. John's Harbour, Newfoundland & Labrador

One can find warm-hearted friendliness and good times in the southern reaches of B.C. at the Lower Mainland Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Society.

We are a registered non-profit society, made of up Newfoundlanders, Labradorians and friends of our beautiful province. Our central purpose is to promote an awareness of Newfoundland and Labrador culture in the Lower Mainland area of B.C. We do this through organizing social events with a Newfoundland theme. During the last year, we enjoyed a barbeque, a flea market sale, a pub night, a Christmas pot-luck social, a bowling evening and a Fish Cake and Baked Beans dinner-meeting. Monies raised from these events go to The Ed Norman Scholarship Fund, the local food bank, Basics for Babies and other charities and good causes, as decided by the membership.

The Ed Norman Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 and is named for former member, Ed Norman. Ed was a proud and dedicated Newfoundlander, who devoted a lot of time and energy to promoting our culture. Each year since 1999, scholarships have been awarded to post-secondary students of Newfoundland and Labrador descent. See the Ed Norman Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The Society is registered with the B.C. Provincial Government and has a written constitution* and guidelines. Bi-monthly meetings are held in Surrey, BC and interested prospective members are most welcome. For more information to attend functions, see our Events Calendar. To join this congenial group, please visit our Membership page.
